Paid to Protest. Who Needs Principles?

with one comment

I always thought, when viewing a protest, that those protesters were driven to march, chant, or show their displeasure for perceived injustices because of principles they held and felt were being violated.  Whether I agreed with their position or not I always respected their right and courage to make their feelings known through the legal right to assemble and protest.

Now this story comes out and I suddenly feel uncomfortably naive…

It appears the AFL-CIO and Occupy DC organizers had plans to protest outside the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington DC this weekend.  But getting people to show up and protest the politically conservative folks inside turned out to be a difficult chore.  So difficult in fact, they resorted to paying $60 to anyone willing to take the money and come march around the venue even though they had no clue what they were marching for or against…

This is another example of style over substance when it comes to the left and their thinking.  Padding the numbers makes your cause look feeble, inept, and unsupported.  I’ll never look at another protest the same again and I’ll always wonder how many of the protesters know what they’re there for or even care if there’s cash coming.

If you’re a dues paying union member are you OK with your money being used this way?

So much for principles.

Who’s Teaching Your Kids and What?

with 3 comments

The Occupy Wall Street movement continues to drag on in cities throughout the country.

In Chicago protesters  stormed Rahm Emanuel’s office at City Hall demanding access to Grant Park for their tent city.  Emanuel has not come out or addressed the protesters but one protester spoke with a reporter about the movement and why he is involved.

Roger Fraser is a retired school teacher and currently earns a comfortable retirement income of $7,792.75 per month according to public school records in Illinois.  Fraser openly advocates the overthrow of the US Government and revolution to bring a “Socialistic Utopia” to the world.

This is what Democracy looks like?  Yes, it absolutely does.  Mob Rule with no checks or balances.  Once again, the wisdom and brilliance of the founding fathers and the government they created, is validated and ratified by those who wish to see its demise.  The world Roger Fraser wants has been tried and he can find the results over in Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, and the former Soviet Republics.

I say, use the freedoms this country has given you your entire life Mr. Fraser and buy a ticket to one of those places and enjoy.  I don’t want your version of “democracy”.

Who’s teaching your kids?  And what?  I’m sure there are parents who are wondering what Roger Fraser was teaching theirs.

Wall Street Protester Caught Fibbing…Just a Tad.

You may have heard about the protests on Wall Street in New York over the weekend. Then again, maybe you didn’t. Turns out they weren’t that big of a deal, until that is, this guy popped up on video. Robert Stephens’ (with a PH) story sounds terrible, even heart breaking. At first glance and on face value, it makes you feel sympathy for the cause he is advocating and his reasons to protest the “Big Banks”.

But Mr. Stephens wasn’t using the intelligence that helped him graduate from Carlton College and got him into the George Washington University law school while shouting out his serious allegations.  He didn’t stop to think whether anyone listening would check into his heart-rending claims and reasons for doing what he did.

Oh dear…

Someone was listening and someone did some fact checking.  Merideth Jessup of The looked into the public records and found this:

“Phone inquiries into the county property records & taxpayer services office reveal that the Stephens family home is not and never has been in foreclosure, that property taxes had been paid in full this year and the remaining balance on their mortgage for the half-million dollar home [$500,000] is less than one year’s worth of tuition+fees at their son’s law school.”  Jessup then called Stephens’ mother, Marquita, where she admitted Chase Bank indeed was not “taking” their home from them. Instead, due to a recent “reduction in income,” they’ve decided to hold a “short sale.”

Mr. Stephens has since responded to the reports with a blog post where he tried to justify his antics and his dishonesty, calling the report, “a smear campaign by the right wing.”

Sorry Mr. Stephens, but you smeared yourself and your cause when you decided to resort to untruths, to manipulate the media, and public opinion.  You are wrong.  It’s too bad you can’t admit it, apologize for it, and learn from it.  Then, you’d really be putting those brains to work in a productive manner.
