A Favorite Winston Churchill Quote with an Example
“Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.” ~ Winston Churchill
Ideologues always come from one of two arenas, the anything-goes world of youthful inexperience or the cocoon of lifelong academics. Neither has much if any real world experience, yet if you have the misfortune of sitting next to one on an airplane and striking up a conversation you’ll soon discover they have all the answers. Just don’t ask them to show any practical applications to said answers, that’s a job for someone else.
Liberalism sounds nice. It exudes passion and presents itself as the compassionate choice. It paints a canvas covered with scenes of a utopian paradise where worries fade and troubles disappear, where the collective good is spread around and all are covered in the pleasant glow. It wants you to believe its just like your mom and will love you and take care of you no matter what. It is an attractive presentation I will admit.
Then you grow up, get tossed out of the house and have to fare for yourself. That’s when, as Churchill implies, you get your first dose of reality, aka, conservative principles, work ethic, self reliance. Those who don’t get that “liberating” shot of reality end up on a street corner with a tin cup, on the public dole, or back in their parent’s basement (if they’ll have them) or if they “know” someone perhaps they can slip back into academia to continue filling new heads with the dream, and building the status required to know all the answers.
Conservative media titan Andrew Breitbart explains how he went from liberal ideologue college grad, to conservative media mogul and the bane of the Liberal media‘s existence. He’s a clear example of the wisdom and truth in Churchill’s words.
